Jackie Chan arrived in Japan to prepare for his new movie, reportedly about Chinese immigrants to the country, an executive at Chan’s company said Thursday.
Chan is rehearsing his part while filmmakers scout locations in Shinjuku, one of Tokyo’s most crowded shopping and entertainment districts, and mainland China, Solon So, senior vice president at Chan’s JC Group, told The Associated Press in a phone interview.
He declined to reveal information about Chan’s character or who else will be in the movie, called “Shinjuku Incident” in Chinese.
Earlier, Chinese media described the film, to be directed by Derek Yee, as a drama portraying the lives of Chinese immigrants living in Shinjuku.
A woman who answered the phone at Yee’s office referred questions to Hong Kong-based Emperor Motion Pictures, which declined comment.
Earlier this year, Chan finished shooting the Hollywood movie “The Forbidden Kingdom,” which marks his first on-screen collaboration with fellow action star Jet Li.
